Wine Teasers Wine Game

A different kind of drinking game

Time to separate the Winos from the Wine-Knows

When you were a kid, there was always someone getting in your face trying to “make learning fun.” Sometimes it was a teacher, other times a babysitter, maybe even occasionally your mom. It never worked. How could it? “Educational Game” is a near-oxymoron, a combination of contradictory concepts destined for failure, like “Christian Rock,” or “Low-Fat Snack Cake.”

“Here, look at this!” they used to say. “It’s a computer game! You like computer games, right? Well, this is just like that ‘Space Intruders’ one you like, except you’ll get better at typing while you play! Come on, try it! I bet lots of kids love this game!” Survey says: Big red X.

Well, now we’re all mature adults (at least physically and in the eyes of the law). And something must have changed, because durned if this Wine Teaser game isn’t actually kind of fun.

Basically, it’s a social way for you and almost any number of your friends to learn more about wine. But it’s not just trivia. There’s chance and strategy involved too.

There are score markers and dice and stuff like with any game, but the nerve center of Wine Teaser is the deck of a hundred question cards, which also have hints and and discussion paragraphs. Play it at your wine tasting, book club meeting, dinner party, or just take the cards to the wine shop with you for reference.

You know what? It just occurred to us why Wine Teaser is sort of fun while all those childhood learning games were lamesville. It’s because math, geography, the periodic table and learning to read a clock are all boring—but wine has alcohol in it. Games and learning may be a mismatch, but games and alcohol go together beautifully!

We proved it in college with JagRISK.
