Thissmall but potent operation has carried out activities in the CentralCoast region of California since at least 1987. Their M.O. emphasizesdiverse varietals, sustainability, and careful vine management, allowing Clos LaChance to strike fear into the hearts of many largercompetitors. Currently, the three Clos LaChance operatives most wantedin connection with this case are:

Clos LaChance 2006Buff-Bellied Zinfandel: considered the softer, more balanced, morereasonable member of the outfit, the 2006 Buff-Bellied Zinfandel isstill highly dangerous, especially to those with preconceptions aboutwhat Zinfandel can be. Notorious for its berry, cocoa, and vanillaflavors and aromas. Has enormous affection for food, particularly spicyor peppery cuisine like pasta with sausuage, moussaka, and pepperonipizza.

Clos LaChance 2006 Estate Grenache: intenseconcentration and a dark undertone mark this member of the ClosLaChance operation. Informants report that it often seems about to losecontrol of its volatile ripe strawberry and rhubarb pie aromas, andraspberry and red cherry flavors. But it’s also surprisingly complexand balanced, making it a highly formidable operative. Also veryversatile and well-prepared for a variety of settings, including withpaella, barbecued chicken wings, and calamari in tomato sauce.

ClosLaChance 2005 Crimson Topaz Meritage: the oldest of the three, the 2005Crimson Topaz Meritage is of mixed Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, andCabernet Franc parentage, with smaller amounts of Malbec and PetiteVerdot. Sometimes taunted as a “half-breed” or “mongrel”, this memberof the gang is said to have a chip on its shoulder, always determinedto prove itself to its peers with random acts of deliciousness.Distinguishing marks include red plum, cherry fruit, and dried tobaccoaromas; black plum, currant, and earth flavors; and a hint of firmtannins on the finish. Known to prefer New York striploin, Cajunspices, and goat cheese.

They are sometimes known to traveltogether. If these three suspects are located, particularly all in oneplace, do not hesitate to place them into your custody. We cannotafford to let them get away.
